Iris van Herpen @ AIFW July 2008 - Shows Off Her S/S '09 Collection

Iris van Herpen's Spring/Summer 2009 collection; aptly named "Refinery Smoke", captures the mysterious beauty and danger of toxic industrial smoke. Models walked on the runway with varying sizes and shapes of what resembled smoke clouds, constructed out of what seems like impossible materials to work with. Their eye makeup, loaded with industrialized shades of chimney smoke, gave the models their steely gazes. I could not keep my eyes off of the models' hairstyles; which was an updo of intricately-created braids on each side, while the top section was teased and smoothed over. I hope to succeed at an attempt to create a real life look inspired by that.

As usual, the designer showed off her impeccable skill at detailing and gathering materials. The result was refined and sophisticated. After all, Iris is known for her high fashion couture.

This was the show stopper for me! (Front)

I heard that these shoes were made from yam threads.

This show was held at the Westergasfabriek; a former industrial site in Amsterdam.

The detailing on the back of that rusty gold dress is killing me! I love it!

The models came out bearing what seemed like larger and larger clouds!

I love the flowi-ness in this dress; constructed out of silvery threads. (Front view)

The designer herself: Iris van Herpen strolled out in her gracefulness.

What a unique and "bubbly" collection . . . I love dresses with volume! Especially the one that looks like it has soap suds pouring out the top and bottom.
Your editorial is very cool - you really capture the mood of the show with the carefully chosen enlarged font on certain words - clever!
Really enjoyed this post :)

I loved the ruffles and the volume of it all. I suspect not all items will translate comercially but more subdued versions will.

Some of you enjoyed the volume and the craziness and others didn't. I love that you're all not shy to voice your opinion. That's why I love to blog!

The hair was done by Martin Wentzel aka "The Flying Barber"! His work is inspiring....
